Spacetime

In 2021, Andrew Huang challenged composers Virtual Riot, Christain Hension, Tori Letzler, and Mark Hadley to compose a silent video. Inspired, Alec Ruiter created his challenge. After a summer intensive with Nicholas Landrum, Ruiter scored, made sound effects, and mastered his interpretation.

Motivational Speech

After the first month of 2022, Alec Ruiter wanted to speak out against the unfairness he felt in the education system. The world changed, and his question was: why didn’t school? Of all years, he felt the aftermath of covid-19 was the time to unify and change school systems from the inside out. This solo project was inspired, composed, and written by Alec with the help and advice of friends.

Arrival

In June 2021, Alec Ruiter attended the Film Scoring Summer Program at NYU. For class, he rescored the original Arrival scene gifted by the film's directors. After a study of the lore, Alec decided to focus his score on the emotions of innocence and tension. For rights purposes, this version does not have the original foley.

Eaglehood

Eaglehood takes viewers into the heart of a forest-dwelling cult of children cast out by society. It follows Kit (John Gialitis) as he becomes unnerved by the cult's acts of violence and ultimately fights against the leader to escape its grasp. During this multi-week journey, Alec Ruiter worked with LOGAN CALDER FILMS of NYU Tisch to convey the emotion of disorder, and determination.

The Secret Number

For the Indie Film Music Competition of 2022, Alec Ruiter challenged himself to make a film score in 1 day during his time at the Atlantic Music Festival. This rescore of The Secret Number aims to foreshadow an aspect of wonky time travel. The Sfi-Fi short Film by Colin Levy is about the connection between a burdened psychiatrist in a mental hospital and his mathematician patient, obsessed with the secret number (Bleem) between two and three. When this mathematician writes equations, some weird things start to happen. In pursuit of the lost mathematician, the psychiatrist learns a disturbing truth about his past.
